You can really make the seasoning your own with this chicken strips, Ethan loves barbeque seasoning, so this recipe is for him.

Why Oven Roasting is the Way to Go

Deep frying can be intimidating. The hot oil, messy splatters, and that lingering greasy smell can be a turn-off. Oven roasting lets you achieve that delightful crispy texture without any hassle. The secret to these Crispy Oven Roasted Chicken Strips? Coating the chicken strips with seasoned oil halfway through cooking. Using two baking trays is also crucial; it gives the chicken strips enough space to crisp up beautifully without steaming each other.

Crispy Oven Roasted Chicken Strips - The Recipe

Ingredients

2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into thin strips

3 eggs, beaten

2 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder, divided

2 tablespoons BBQ seasoning — feel free to explore your favourite seasonings

2 cups plain flour

1 teaspoon flaky salt

1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1/2 cup vegetable oil

Juice of half a lime

More flaky salt for seasoning

Small handful of chopped fresh coriander

Having everything prepared in advance makes cooking smoother.

Method:

1. Preheat Your Oven

Start by preheating your oven to 400°F / 200°).

2. Prepare Your Chicken

Cut the chicken breasts into thin strips. Aim for uniform sizes to ensure even cooking.

3. Set Up Your Breading Station

In two separate bowls, create your breading setup:

  • Bowl 1: Beat the eggs and mix in 1 teaspoon of garlic powder.

  • Bowl 2: Combine plain flour, remaining garlic powder, flaky salt, black pepper, and BBQ seasoning. Stir well to mix.

4. The Breading Process

Dip each chicken strip first into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated. Then roll it in the flour mixture for an even coating. This is where the crunchy exterior comes to life!

5. Arrange the Chicken on Baking Trays

Line your baking trays with parchment paper and arrange the chicken strips in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding the trays, as this is essential for achieving that crispy finish.

6. Bake It Up!

Place the trays in the oven and bake for about 15 minutes. And drizzle over the oil to coat.

About half way through cooking, carefully remove the trays from the oven and re coat the chicken strips in the seasoned oil in the trays and return them to the oven for another 10 minutes. This step is important for achieving that golden-brown colour and crunch.

7. Serve and Enjoy!

Once the chicken strips are perfectly cooked and crispy, remove from the oven and give a finally sprinkling of flaky sea salt, squeeze over the lime juice and add a final flourish of coriander. These strips can stand alone, but if you want to elevate the dish, pile them up on loaded cheesy nachos. Add melted cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and a sprinkle of jalapeños or quick pickled onions, for an gorgeous family feast.

Customizing Your Flavour

One of the best aspects of this recipe is its flexibility. While Ethan loves BBQ seasoning, you can easily switch things up to match your family’s taste preferences. Here are a few ideas:

  • Spicy Buffalo: Add cayenne pepper or swap BBQ seasoning for buffalo seasoning.

  • Herb & Garlic: Use Italian seasoning with garlic powder for a fresh herby flavour.

  • Taco Seasoning: Ideal for taco night; think of these crispy strips stuffed into warm tortillas!
