As soon as the kids go back to school in September, I swear there's a shift in the air. The evenings cool, the light changes and suddenly I can smell the sweetness of fallen leaves.
This is probably my favourite season for cooking too. Apples start appearing through the garden gate, the oven gets switched on more often and I suddenly remember how much I like a big pot of something bubbling away.
