World Chocolate Day is an excellent reason to indulge your sweet cravings, and what better way to celebrate than with this decadent Chocolate Pull Apart Bread? Based on an old Valerie Bertinelli recipe, I've skipped the roasted hazelnuts and ramped up the chocolatiness. This delightful treat is not only gooey and delicious but also incredibly easy to make with store-bought croissant dough.
Picture this: layers of buttery pastry filled with creamy chocolate hazelnut spread and topped with crunchy cinnamon sugar. It’s a dessert that feels indulgent yet remains simple to prepare. Let’s explore how to create this chocolatey delight to impress your friends and family!

The Magic Behind the Dough
Starting with the right dough is key to making perfect Chocolate Hazelnut Pull Apart Bread. Thankfully, you don’t have to spend hours preparing dough from scratch; store-bought croissant dough works wonders in this recipe.
Using croissant dough saves time and gives your pull-apart bread delightful buttery layers. You can find it in the refrigerated section of your super market.
Chocolate Hazelnut Spread: The Star of the Show
Let’s focus on the filling—the rich chocolate hazelnut spread. With every bite, its creamy texture mixes perfectly with the pastry layers, creating a deliciously indulgent experience!
The Complement of Cinnamon Sugar
To enhance the chocolatey goodness, we can’t forget about cinnamon sugar. Mixing sugar with ground cinnamon adds warmth and comfort, perfectly pairing with the sweetness of the chocolate.
To create this simple mixture, combine two parts sugar with one part cinnamon in a bowl. For example, mix 1 cup of granulated sugar with ½ cup of cinnamon. This combination will elevate each bite, providing an extra layer of flavour to your bread.
The Importance of Butter
Achieving that irresistible crust and flaky texture is made easy with melted butter brushed between the layers. This not only adds richness but allows the cinnamon sugar to adhere, resulting in a delicious caramelized layer.
Melt some unsalted butter in the microwave. Brush it generously on your baking dish and between the layers of dough. This is where your kitchen begins to fill with the amazing aroma of baking bread!

1 jar of Chocolate Hazelnut Spread
100 g butter melted
1 cup of caster sugar
1/2 cup of ground cinnamon
100g milk chocolate melted
Method
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Melt butter, line an ovenproof dish and generously coat with the melted butter
Unroll the croissant dough into a large sheet, gently pressing the perforations back together, until you have 2 large sheets.
Generously spread chocolate hazelnut spread over the sheet of the dough.
Lay the next layers over the top and dust with the cinnamon sugar.
Cut the dough sandwich into equal squares
Stack the squares on top of each other and lay the stack down in the prepared baking dish. Split the squares down the middle of the stack, until about 3/4 of the though, do not cut all the way to the bottom.
Brush the layers of dough generously with the melted butte
Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up.
Serve and enjoy: Let it cool slightly before savouring it. For added chocolatiness, drizzle with melted milk chocolate before serving
