Something Boozy to Eat & Drink ... Some things are better with a little booze.

Sometimes it's in the glass. Sometimes it finds its way into the saucepan, the cake tin or the ice cream maker. And sometimes, if we're doing things properly, it's both.

Here you'll find cocktails, spritzes and drinks for raising a glass, alongside recipes where a splash of cider, wine, bourbon or something else delicious brings a little extra depth and character to the food.

So whether you're looking for something to sip, something to cook with, or an excuse to do both...

Raise a toast.

A Little Something to Know ...

Cooking with alcohol isn't just about adding booze for the sake of it. A splash of cider can bring sweetness and acidity, wine can add depth to a sauce, and bourbon, rum or brandy can turn an ordinary pudding into something rather special.

... And then there are the recipes where the booze is very definitely part of the occasion.

Look for something to pour, something to stir, something to bake — or perhaps something to make and drink alongside it.

Jo's Kitchen Note ...

I have a fairly simple rule when it comes to cooking with booze:

If you're going to open the bottle, you might as well make sure there's enough left for the cook.

A little splash can make a surprising difference to a recipe, but sometimes the best part is simply sitting down afterwards with the drink you made to go with it.

And one other rule: don't cook with it if you wouldn't drink it.

I've also never quite understood recipes that call for leftover wine. I've never found any in the supermarket.
