SOMETHING SWEET ...

Whether you're after something chocolatey, fruity, creamy, buttery or gloriously sticky, sometimes there really is only one answer.  Something sweet.

From simple bakes and comforting puddings to cakes worth celebrating and little treats that mysteriously disappear before anyone else gets a look in, you'll find plenty here to satisfy a sweet tooth.

Tips & Suggestions

Don't wait for a special occasion.  A Tuesday afternoon is perfectly good enough reason for cake.

Let the seasons do some of the work.  Ripe fruit, berries, apples, plums and pears can turn a simple pudding into something rather lovely without needing much fuss.

Keep good chocolate in the cupboard.  You never know when a chocolate emergency might strike.

Embrace the wonky bits.   A cake that leans slightly, a crumble with an enthusiastic topping or a tart that's not quite symmetrical is still homemade — and probably still delicious.

Make friends with your freezer.  Many cakes, bakes, fruit curds and desserts can be frozen, which means making a little extra now can save you a lot of effort later.

Jo's Kitchen Note ...

I don't think sweet things need to be complicated to be special.

Sometimes it's a beautifully decorated cake, and sometimes it's warm fruit with a spoonful of cream. Sometimes there's a recipe involved and sometimes something simply needs using up and turns into pudding.

And I've always thought there's something rather lovely about putting a homemade cake on the table and watching everyone suddenly find a reason to come into the kitchen.

Although if you've made something chocolate, you might want to hide a piece for yourself first.
