WELCOME TO
Something Comforting to Eat
Here you'll find recipes for slow Sundays, rainy afternoons, chilly evenings, hungry families, unexpected guests and those days when you simply need something delicious.
Take your pick, put the kettle on, and come and sit in my kitchen for a while.

For the days when you need food that feels like a hug ...
There are recipes you make because you need to eat, and then there are the ones you make because you need comfort.
Something warm and bubbling from the oven. A bowl of soup that you can wrap your hands around. Potatoes with crispy edges and something creamy hiding underneath. A pudding that makes the whole kitchen smell like home.
Comfort food doesn't have to be complicated, and it doesn't always have to take hours. Sometimes it's a recipe you've made a hundred times; sometimes it's something new that just happens to hit the spot.
So if you're looking for something warm, cosy, generous and guaranteed to make you feel a little bit better, you've come to the right kitchen.
Let's dive right into some comforting recipes ...

Tips & Suggestions
❤️ Give it time when you can.
Some of the best comfort food isn't meant to be rushed. A slow simmer, a gentle bake or a little extra time in the oven can make all the difference.
❤️ Don't be afraid of a generous portion.
Comfort food isn't usually about restraint. If there's enough for seconds, you've probably got it right.
❤️ Make friends with leftovers.
A comforting supper today can often become an even better lunch tomorrow. Curries, stews, pies and pasta dishes are particularly good at it.
❤️ Season as you go.
A good pinch of salt, plenty of black pepper and a little tasting along the way can turn something merely filling into something you'll want to make again.
❤️ Texture matters.
Creamy needs something crisp. Soft needs something crunchy. A little fresh herb or sharp pickle can stop a rich dish from feeling too heavy.
❤️ Cook enough to share.
Comfort food has a habit of making people appear in the kitchen when they smell what's cooking. You might as well be prepared.
❤️ And if all else fails... add cheese.
It's not a scientific principle, but I've yet to find much evidence against it!

Jo's Kitchen Note ...
My favourite kind of comfort food is the sort that makes the kitchen smell amazing before it's even ready.
If something is bubbling away in the oven, soup is simmering on the hob or there's a crumble quietly doing its thing, I'm already feeling better.
... And if there's enough to put leftovers in the fridge for tomorrow, even better. There is something very comforting about knowing that tomorrow's dinner is already taken care of
