Courgette Glut? Welcome to the Help Group. For those of us who have lost control of the fridge drawer

I gather you all here today to discuss something on a rather serious note...

It has come to my attention that there are people out there, such as myself, suffering from a little-known condition known as CGGOC – Courgette Glut Growers Overload Circumstance.

The symptoms are actually very well documented.

Sufferers are often left overwhelmed and bewildered as they stare into a fridge drawer full of courgettes wondering what on earth they are going to cook next.

In the early stages, many attempt to pass the condition on to unsuspecting family members, friends and neighbours.

Sadly, after accepting the first five offerings with gratitude, these same family members and neighbours soon find themselves suffering from the very same condition.

You see, courgettes are relentless.

One minute there is nothing. The next, there are three.

Turn your back for long enough to pick up the watering can and suddenly there are six more lurking beneath the leaves, growing at a rate previously only observed in science fiction films.

So today, I am officially forming the CGGOC Support Group.

I've reached the point where opening the fridge drawer feels less like meal planning and more like checking inventory.

One day you're proudly harvesting your first courgette of the season.

The next you're standing in the kitchen wondering whether it's socially acceptable to leave anonymous bags of them on neighbours' doorsteps under cover of darkness. It's never-ending. Just like the bottomless fridge-drawer supply of courgettes currently taking over my kitchen.

So, enough, I say!

And in the spirit of supporting fellow sufferers, I thought I'd share a few of my favourite ways to use them up — and make a small promise that more recipes will become available as we continue the fight against CGGOC.

This week's support group recommendations ...

🥒 Ratatouille-Topped Cauliflower Cheese

Because sometimes the answer to a courgette glut is simply more cheese.

🌸 Homemade Pasta with Fresh Courgette Flowers

For those days when you've moved beyond ordinary courgette desperation and decided to eat the flowers as well.

Remember, fellow sufferers...

Together, we can get through this ... Or, at the very least, delay the inevitable moment when we discover another six courgettes hiding under the leaves.

And if you have a favourite way to use up a mountain of them, I need to hear it.

At the current rate of production, I may need all the ideas I can get.
